The Presidency of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council, along with its Supreme Executive Leadership, General Secretariat, and all affiliated bodies, announced on Friday the full dissolution of the council, the abolition of all its main and subsidiary institutions, and the closure of all offices inside the country and abroad.
Full statement:
The Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, the Supreme Executive Leadership, the General Secretariat, and the council’s affiliated bodies convened a meeting to assess the recent unfortunate events in the governorates of
#Hadramout and Al-Mahara, and the subsequent rejection of all efforts aimed at de-escalation and ending tensions, as well as the serious and painful repercussions that followed. The meeting also took note of the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the sponsorship of a Southern dialogue to resolve the Southern issue.
In order to safeguard the future of the Southern cause and the right of the people of the South to restore their state in line with their will and aspirations, and to preserve social peace and security in the South in particular, and in neighboring brotherly countries and the region in general;
And since the Southern Transitional Council was established with the aim of carrying the cause of the people of the South, representing them, and leading them toward achieving their aspirations and restoring their state, based on our belief that the ultimate goal is the achievement of this objective, not clinging to the council as a means to attain power, monopolize decision-making, or exclude others;
And given that we did not participate in the decision regarding the military operation in the governorates of Hadramout and Al-Mahra, which harmed southern unity and negatively affected relations with the Coalition led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which has made, and continues to make, significant sacrifices and provides sustained political, economic, and military support;
And as the continued existence of the council no longer serves the purpose for which it was established, and in light of the above and the historical responsibility toward the cause of the people of the South, we hereby announce the dissolution of the Southern Transitional Council, the dissolution of all its main and subsidiary bodies and institutions, and the closure of all its offices at home and abroad. We also affirm our commitment to pursuing our just Southern objective through preparation for and engagement in the comprehensive Southern Conference under the auspices of the Kingdom.
We commend the clear and explicit commitments expressed by the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the strong concern it has demonstrated for our cause in order to reach solutions that meet the aspirations and will of the people of the South.
We call on various influential figures and leaders in the South to engage in the process of the comprehensive Southern Dialogue Conference, hoping that participants will reach a vision and framework to resolve the cause of the people of the South and fulfill their aspirations in accordance with their free will, and to form a unified Southern framework.
From this standpoint, we also call on the people of the South, our colleagues in the capital Aden, and all the governorates of the beloved South to recognize the gravity and sensitivity of this stage and the importance of uniting efforts to preserve achievements and protect the South from any chaos or instability.
As we reaffirm our commitment to continue serving the just and legitimate cause of the people of the South & achieving their aspirations in accordance with their will, we extend our thanks to the leadership and people of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting the comprehensive Southern Dialogue Conference and for the Kingdom’s continued support for the South, its cause, & its people across all fields and at all stages.
