The ethical principles that guide the healthcare community equip it with the means to stand against injustices, including the systemic denial of medical care to Palestinians living under Israeli rule.

Now, 32 leading physicians within Israel’s public healthcare system, including hospital directors and former directors-general of the Ministry of Health, have submitted a court appeal calling to immediately allow the medical evacuation of patients from Gaza to the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
-
The physicians emphasized that their professional oath obligates them to provide care to anyone in need, regardless of religion, nationality, or political beliefs. With life-saving treatment largely unavailable in Gaza, denying medical evacuations leads to worsening health conditions, irreversible harm, and preventable deaths.

Gaza’s healthcare system has long relied on hospitals in the West Bank and East Jerusalem for services unavailable locally, functioning as part of a single, interconnected medical system. The destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system due to Israel’s actions has left thousands of sick and wounded patients without care. Hospitals have been damaged or rendered inoperative, entire departments have shut down, medical supplies and medications have been depleted, and staff are working under impossible conditions.

This reality underscores the urgent need to allow patients safe passage from Gaza to medical facilities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Preventing such access condemns patients to unnecessary suffering and, in some cases, death. The petition, filed by PHRI alongside Gisha, Adalah, HaMoked, and ACRI, calls for a binding, life-saving solution.
