For generations, volunteers have been the backbone of the Hudson Valley. They’re the volunteer firefighters and EMTs who answer alarms at two in the morning. They’re the folks stocking food pantries, mentoring kids after school, coaching Little League, organizing blood drives, and checking in on neighbors who need help. They do it because service is part of who we are in NY-17.
I’m proud to announce a bipartisan resolution designating 2026 as the National Year of the Volunteer. I’m introducing this effort alongside Democrats and Republicans because service isn’t partisan — it’s American.
As our country approaches its 250th anniversary, this resolution honors the people who have always held our communities together and calls on the next generation to step up and serve. @America250

This competition is part of @America250, a bipartisan non-profit, charged by the US Congress and chaired by Rosie Rios, the 43rd treasurer of the U.S. (and I'm honored to be joining the advisory board, too).

Today, joined by some of the very best volunteers from the Hudson Valley, I announced my bipartisan resolution designating 2026 as the National Year of the Volunteer.
Volunteers are the backbone of our communities. From volunteer firefighters and EMS workers to food banks, youth sports, and local nonprofits, service is what keeps communities like those across the Hudson Valley strong.
As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, this effort honors the millions of Americans who step up to get involved in their communities.
The resolution also helps raise awareness for @America250's America Gives program, a nationwide initiative designed to make 2026 the largest year of volunteerism in U.S. history.
