In parts of North Darfur, Sudan, more than half of all children are acutely malnourished. A recent alert from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) indicates “catastrophic” malnutrition rates in three localities in the region. Famine thresholds have now been surpassed in new areas, including Um Baru and Kernoi. Conflict, mass displacement, the collapse of basic services, disease outbreaks, and restricted access are all threatening children’s lives and well-being.
