#BREAKING 🇷🇺🇺🇦 Slovakia has announced that the country will halt all transfers of electricity to Ukraine on February 23rd if Ukraine does not open the Druzhba pipeline.
🇷🇺🇺🇦 Looks like the EU is also pressuring Ukraine to repair the Druzhba pipeline. Slovakia stated they will also stop electricity tranfers to Ukraine if there is no timetable for fixing the lines.

Response and recovery efforts are ongoing following Russia’s overnight attack. Nearly 300 attack drones, most of them “shaheds,” and 50 missiles of various types, a significant share of them ballistic, were launched against Ukraine. The strikes targeted Kyiv and the region, the Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, and Sumy regions. Tragically, one person was killed in the Fastiv district. My condolences to the family and loved ones. Eight people were injured, including one child. The main target of the attack was the energy sector. Ordinary residential buildings were also damaged, and there is damage to the railway. Moscow continues to invest in strikes more than in diplomacy. This week alone, Russia launched more than 1,300 attack drones against Ukraine, over 1,400 guided aerial bombs, and 96 missiles of various types, including dozens of ballistic ones. That is why we must bolster our air defense. We need systems that effectively counter ballistic threats. Thank you to all our partners who help us procure air defense missiles through PURL and provide them from their own stocks. Each such package protects critical infrastructure and preserves normal life.

Yesterday, Russia deliberately targeted the Mondelez food production plant in Ukraine's Trostianets, Sumy Oblast, a facility that has operated continuously since the 1990s and was of the very first major foreign investments in Ukraine’s independent economy. This enterprise began as a state-owned factory in 1978, once the largest chocolate producer in the former Soviet Union. It was later privatized by the American company Mondelez, which invested more than $250 million to modernize production, raise quality standards, and integrate Ukrainian manufacturing into global supply chains. Today, the plant generates approximately 7 billion hryvnias in annual production and ranks among the top 150 taxpayers in Ukraine. It supports Ukrainian families, strengthens local communities, and contributes to both our economy and that of the United States. When Russia targets facilities owned by American companies on Ukrainian soil, it does so knowingly. This is not incidental damage. It is a deliberate message – one that extends beyond Ukraine’s borders.

Ukraine’s calls out Hungary’s and Slovakia’s energy blackmail. Statements from Budapest and Bratislava are provocative, irresponsible, and threaten the energy security of the entire region. Ukraine is considering the possibility of activating the Early Warning Mechanism provided for in the Association Agreement. Hungary and Slovakia should send their ultimatums to the Kremlin, and certainly not to Kyiv. Full MFA statement: bit.ly/4cF0wiL
Ukraine rejects and condemns the ultimatums and blackmail by the governments of Hungary and the Slovak Republic regarding energy supplies between our countries 🇺🇦🇭🇺🇸🇰 Such actions, in the context of massive and targeted Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and Moscow's attempts to deprive Ukrainians of electricity, heating, and gas during extreme cold weather, are provocative, irresponsible, and threaten the energy security of the entire region. In doing so, the governments of Hungary and Slovakia are not only playing into the hands of the aggressor, but also harming their own energy companies that supply energy on a commercial basis. Ukraine is in constant contact with representatives of the European Commission regarding the damage to Ukrainian energy infrastructure caused by daily Russian strikes. We have also provided information about the consequences of these Russian attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline infrastructure to the governments of Hungary and Slovakia. Security and stabilization repair work continues amid daily threats of new missile attacks. Ukraine has also proposed alternative ways to resolve the issue of supplying non-Russian oil to these countries. 🇪🇺 Ukraine has always been, is, and will remain a reliable energy partner of the EU and a transit country for energy resources. At the same time, in light of the unfounded and irresponsible threats coming from Budapest and Bratislava in recent days, Ukraine is considering the possibility of activating the Early Warning Mechanism provided for in the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. We call on the governments of Hungary and the Slovak Republic to engage in constructive cooperation and behave responsibly. Ultimatums should be sent to the Kremlin, and certainly not to Kyiv.

@oe24at
