Tonight on #PoliticsNation with Al Sharpton, I opened with remembrance of my beloved mentor and international civil rights icon, Rev. Jesse Louis Jackson Sr., while confronting the urgent challenges facing our democracy. I was joined by House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to discuss the Supreme Court’s tariff ruling, rising costs for working families, threats to voting rights, and why Congress must assert its constitutional role on foreign policy. Rev. Jackson taught us that the struggle is a marathon. We honor him by staying active in today’s fight for what is right. #PoliticsNation #KeepHopeAlive

This afternoon on #AlexWittReports, I reflected on the life and legacy of my mentor, Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr., following our Keep Hope Alive Rally with National Action Network. I shared how Rev. Jackson carried forward Dr. King’s mission by fighting for voting rights, economic justice, and inclusion, and why honoring him means staying active in the struggles of today. The fight is a marathon, not a sprint. We keep going. #RIPRevJesseJackson #KeepHopeAlive

NEW YORK, NY (February 19, 2026) – Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of National Action Network (NAN), will host a special tribute to Rev. Jesse Jackson at this Saturday’s Action Rally, honoring the life, legacy, and contributions of one of America’s most consequential civil rights leaders and statesmen. Rev. Jackson and Rev. Sharpton shared one of the most enduring partnerships in the modern civil rights movement. It was Rev. Jackson who appointed a teenage Sharpton as youth director of Operation Breadbasket in Brooklyn, setting him on the path that would lead to the founding of NAN. Over decades, the two marched together, organized together, and stood shoulder to shoulder on the front lines of some of the nation’s most defining moments for racial justice. Rev. Jackson later bestowed one of his most meaningful honors on that legacy, personally naming NAN’s headquarters “The House of Justice.” It is fitting that this tribute will be held at Mother AME Zion Church — the last place Reverend Jackson ever spoke publicly. Rev. Jackson was a towering figure in the struggle for civil rights, social justice, and political empowerment — a close ally of Rev. Sharpton and a defining voice of conscience in American public life for more than six decades. He ran historic presidential campaigns in 1984 and 1988, expanding the electorate and reshaping the Democratic Party. His Rainbow Coalition brought together communities across lines of race, class, and geography in a vision of solidarity that continues to inspire. This Saturday’s rally will be held at Mother AME Zion Church 140 W. 137th Street New York, NY. WHO: Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of NAN U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer New York Attorney General Letitia James Mayor Zohran Mamdani City Council Member Rita Joseph Assembly Member Jordan Wright Assembly Member Brian Cunningham Assembly Member Rodneyse Hermelyn Secretary of NY State, Walter Mosley PA Jumaane Williams Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal WHEN: Saturday, February 21, 2026 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. ET WHERE: Mother AME Zion Church 140 W. 137th Street New York, NY #RIPRevJesseJackson #NANSaturdayActionRally

Last March, I went across the Edmund Pettus Bridge and visited the Civil Rights Museum in Selma. I’ve revisited that bridge for over thirty years, that would end up being the last time I’d go across with Rev. Jackson. #RIPRevJesseJackson

This afternoon on MSNOW’s #KatyTurReports, I joined Katy Tur alongside Dr. Christina Greer to reflect on the life and legacy of my mentor, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson. We honored Reverend Jackson’s journey, from his time with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to leading Rainbow PUSH Coalition and running one of the strongest presidential campaigns by a Black candidate in American history. I shared how I first met Reverend Jackson as a teenager through Operation Breadbasket, how he became my mentor, and how he pushed me to study, organize, and never settle. He was tough on me because he believed in me. This loss is deeply personal. But it is also political. Everything Reverend Jackson fought for, voting rights, civil rights, economic justice, is under attack right now. Fighting DEI is fighting the Civil Rights Act. Undermining voting rights is attacking the Voting Rights Act. Reverend Jackson taught me that progress comes in waves. Sometimes you move forward, sometimes there is backlash. But you stay in the water and you keep going. The best way to honor him is to protect what he built and keep moving on the things he was about. Rest in power, Reverend. Your legacy lives in all of us. #RIPRevJesseJackson

Tonight on #AllInWithChrisHayes, I reflected on the life and leadership of Rev. Jesse Jackson and what he poured into so many of us. He taught us to keep hope alive, even when life feels like despair. He reminded us that you’re stronger than the blocks in your way, and that you don’t let society limit you. You challenge it. From bringing Dr. King’s movement into Northern cities, to embracing people living with HIV/AIDS when others turned away, to building coalitions across communities, Rev. Jackson showed us what it means to lead with courage and compassion. He gave us roots. How we blossom is up to our gifts, discipline, and commitment. #RIPRevJesseJackson

Tonight on All In with Chris Hayes, I reflected on the life and legacy of my beloved mentor, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, and the power of learning your “somebodiness” at a young age. I shared how I came up under Rev. Jackson through Operation Breadbasket, how he taught us to organize, stay focused on the issues, and believe we could make change irregardless of where we came from. From criminal justice to voting rights, his style, discipline, and spirit ushered in a new generation of activism that led to real, substantive progress. #AllInWithChrisHayes #RIPRevJesseJackson

Tonight on #TheBeatWithAri, I joined Ari Melber to reflect on the life and legacy of my dear friend and mentor, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson. We have lost a giant. Rev. Jackson continued the movement of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by protecting the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act when they were under attack. He democratized the Democratic Party through proportional representation, changing how delegates were awarded and helping reshape what was politically possible. He inspired a generation behind him, including me. From Trayvon to George Floyd and beyond, much of what we organized and fought for was rooted in lessons we learned from him. He showed America that expanding opportunity does not take anything away. In politics and in corporate boardrooms, he proved that inclusion strengthens institutions and increases margins. He taught us that justice is not only morally right, it is smart and sustainable. In his final years, he would remind me that history moves in cycles. There will be pushback, and there will be setbacks, but you hang in there and keep going until you reach the goal. As he always said, Keep Hope Alive. My prayers are with his family and with all of us who stood on his shoulders. #RIPRevJesseJackson

Just wrapped on #DeadlineWhiteHouse with Nicolle Wallace. I shared what I learned growing up in Breadbasket under Rev. Jesse Jackson who learned from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., boycotts only work when they’re tied to defined results. You have to know the margin of profit, apply real pressure, and demand specific change. Anger alone doesn’t move corporations, their bottom line does. There are many tools for change in the toolbox. We can vote, we can send messages to Congress, we can boycott companies that don’t do the right thing. All of it matters to move towards progress.
