You’d think an 80 year old attorney would know better than to obstruct law enforcement, but I guess he thought snagging whatever evidence was in that backpack was worth the risk.
During an ICE activity on Carrillo St. in Santa Barbara Friday morning, 80-year-old Doug Hayes, a local attorney, stepped in to move a backpack and from there the situation escalated. There was a crowd getting video and blowing whistles. (Video: Liz Arreguin via KEYT)

If the worst happens and we end up attacking Iran I hope they don’t leave their F-14s on the ground The Tomcats should go out with their boots on. In the air. One last blaze of glory. Not in some ground strike.

“Work” is just a place they go where they make sure people *don’t* say some things and *do* say other things (Oh, and where any heterosexual relationships are very, very strongly discouraged, but anything else is free game. Also just like modern media.)

Modern media is made by HR people HR people rarely know *what* their employer actually *does*, let alone *how* it does it They cannot conceive of a coherent narrative—conflict, struggle, ambiguity, perseverance—because they do not inhabit one

“We have to implement age verification to stop men like this from talking to your kids” is easily the strongest argument for age verification
🚨 WATCH: Minnesota Republicans proposed age verification for websites that host adult content. Rep. Leigh Finke (D) argues that queer kids should have access to it for educational purposes. WTF?

As a parent your # 1 priority in public spaces is that everyone else Just Be Normal The key problem facing families in large cities is that we made it illegal to require people to Just Be Normal
i’ve been on the subway with homeless people that peed, screamed, all sorts of stuff. it was mildly uncomfortable but truly didn’t impact my day in any way. maybe your husband needs to toughen up

Voters always say, on any issue, "I want the upsides with no downsides." They'll vote for Eat Whatever You Want party, then when they get fat they'll say "this isn't what I voted for." So they elect the Get Skinny party, and when put on a diet say, "this isn't what I voted for."
This is a reality check going into the midterms. 50% of Americans support deporting 14 million undocumented immigrants even though 58% think that Trump is "going too far" in how he is handling it according to the @washingtonpost poll.

People love to mock Dave Ramsey, but there are two very, very different types of people out there when it comes to financial advice: people who have a safety net and people who don’t If you have assets to fall back on for, say, 6-12 months of unemployment, you can take risks. Maybe Dave isn’t your guy. If you don’t—and you’re in debt—you’ll generally be better off following Dave Ramsey’s advice (although I agree that he is off the mark on homes and paying down extremely low interest debt generally)
Dave Ramsey math to become a millionaire by 30. - Pay off your 1.5% mortgage. - Pay off your 0.9% car loan. - Buy a 2K used car so you can have 10K of repairs. - Use debit cards, not credit cards. - Don't allocate even a tiny bit to #btc - Make coffee at home.

“There are HUNDREDS of abuse cases against the Mormon Church right now!” Yeah, and the vast majority of them are cases like these Low quality, little to no evidence Just plaintiff’s attorneys out for a quick settlement and a little cash
So, what was the Plaintiff’s attorney trying to do? It seems they were trying to combine this case with other cases to bundle them in a class and drive a higher settlement From the descriptions below, you can see that most of the other cases… probably aren’t what you’d call “airtight” either.

If you read the actual story, however, it gets quite… odd Her father had five children through surrogates and egg donors While he was single and over 40 What was going on here
Alysa Liu’s father was persecuted by the CCP for the Tiananmen Square protests and fled to America His daughter became a world-class figure skater and refused to skate for the CCP when they tried to recruit her She just won the gold medal for Team USA 🇺🇸

We’re going to keep seeing these because a huge portion of the California economy depends on bottom-feeding lawyers And the laws there are designed for exactly this outcome

Also, many of these organizations lacked resources or the willingness to use them to fight the claims The LDS Church, however, has far deeper pockets—and does not intend to allow itself to become an easy mark and face even more claims

The simple truth is that *most* of the huge class actions against the BSA and other churches are in large part made up of cases much like these The key difference has been a corporate structure that made certifying a class easier, allowing the Jenga tower to go forward

Unfortunately for the bottom-feeding Plaintiffs attorneys, you actually can’t really make a bunch of cases with zero common parties, facts, locations, or even time periods a class So the Plaintiffs seem to have settled pretty quickly, and probably not for much, but for far less than attorneys’ fees would be The case was closed with prejudice in August
