Following our engagement with the South African President on Friday, the Department of Home Affairs responded promptly by conducting a visit to the Mayfair area to enhance immigration and identity verification procedures. A coordinated operation involving JMPD, SAPS, and the Department of Home Affairs resulted in the detention of 217 women and over 400 men identified as undocumented foreign nationals. Immigration officials are currently processing all individuals in accordance with legal requirements, thereby ensuring that the operation adheres to the rule of law and the city’s commitment to restoring safety and order.
