Looking at more model data this morning, and if the GFS/NAM camp is right with the banding, the heaviest 20” band would be WEST, and 6” would start in eastern PA, not NJ.

If the 12z runs were any indication, we’re FINALLY locking in on the likely scenario, and it is one of the snowiest for the I-95 corridor. We’ll likely start using the B-word, too. ❄️💨

Despite being 48hrs out, uncertainty remains HIGH with multiple pieces that are expected to ‘phase’ into one storm.
Exact track & speed of intensification will have HUGE impacts for lake effect & 95 corridor. NYC could go either way, 2-5 or 8-12 . Stay tuned!

An interesting shift at 18z thanks to newly-ingested recon data: a stronger storm & stronger ridging west.
ECMWF shows it too, but clearer on GFS. 0z runs will have lots more ingested data & will be telling. I’m on bright & early, 4:30 on @WEWS!

Here's the structural changes. Watch the northern piece slow down enough to interact with the storm & bring heavier precip on the northern side. It is still a fast-mover with limited cold air, so be weary of double-digit model totals. 1 or 2" much more common in the stripe.

WOW. You don't see this big of a change very often. #NAM highlights the fickle forecast ❄️
A *tiny* change in strength & alignment of the northern piece (aka cold air source) can change impacts for NJ & NYC. While overdone, a stripe of light, slushy accums is possible.

Bottomline, be weary of 'futurecast' graphics showing lots of snow for this weekend. An easy 'default' to show on TV is not necessarily the best forecast.

Aside from the Euro AIFS, one other model that's *very* bullish on snow for the Northeast is the GRAF. It has widespread 4-8 from Philly to Providence.
As this is a case of 'thread the needle' everything has to go right for a snowstorm. The odds NOT in our favor for snow.
