Coat made of native leather, rawhide, pigment, porcupine quills, glass beads, and deer hair, crafted circa 1789 by the Ojibwa people. Origin: Ontario, Canada. Currently in the collection of the Nelson-Atkins Museum, Kansas City, MO.
Crafted during the North American Colonial period, the coat draws inspiration from English officer attire of the late 18th century, during the reign of George III. It features rich adornments such as loom-woven, embroidered, and wrapped porcupine quillwork, along with elaborate geometric paintings.
